Mr. Norman's Principal Message

Welcome to December, Dragons!

We have 15 days between us and the end of Semester 1 and we will remain committed to delivering engaging instruction and working hard to the very end!

2nd Quarter Midterms were posted two weeks, so please be checking those on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child's teachers or me. If you would like to email your student's teachers, you can find emails by searching HERE and websites are found HERE.

On Thursday, December 8th, WCHS will be hosting a Family Night that will include Parent-Teacher Conferences, information from local colleges and businesses, and food! I will be sending out more details, but the event will run from 5pm to 7pm.

On Monday, November 28, students will be reminded of some of the most important WCHS Expectations. You can access the information HERE.

When a student is caught demonstrating one of those characteristics, a staff member can give the student a SWAG Tag. On Fridays, students can turn them in to win prizes! Be sure to talk to your student about this and join in on the fun!

SWAG represents our School-Wide Expectations and stands for the following:

Showing Respect

Willingness to Lead

Actively Engaged

Generating School Spirit

As we start to see the temperature and seasons change, please review WCPS's INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES:

  • SBDM Special-Called Meeting - Wednesday, November 30 at 3pm - AGENDA

  • Thursday, December 15th - 1st, 3rd, & 5th period Finals

  • Friday, December 16th - 2nd, 4th, & 6th period Finals

  • Last day of school - 12/16/22

  • First day back - 1/4/23

ARCHIVED INFORMATION:

As a school, we were classified as Orange with targeted support for African-American, ESL, and IEP students. I met with the staff to review our scores, and even though we are not where we want to be at this point, we are making progress. We decreased novice performance across the board, we have a 95% graduation rate, and over two-thirds of our students are Postsecondary ready. Please review our progress toward our School Improvement goals HERE. To access scores, please refer to the letters that were sent out to you last Tuesday:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Please make sure you have completed the student emergency cards. This is a super important document for updated contact information, emergency contacts, and a list of people eligible to sign your child out of school. If someone is NOT on the emergency card, they CANNOT sign the student out.

  • Here are a few reminders about attendance:

  • An unexcused event can be an all-day absence, a late check-in, or an early check-out

    • Once a student reaches 3 of any combination of those listed above, they will receive contact from Mr. Hickey, our attendance Liaison.

    • Once a student reaches 6 of any combination of those listed above, their name is turned over to the truancy officer.

    • Once a student reaches 9 of any combination of those listed above, truancy can be filled in court.

      • Also, a student may lose their right to prom, graduation, driving, etc if they obtain 9 or more

  • Students are allowed 7 parent notes and 10 doctor notes each year and they must be turned in within 5 days of the absence

DISTRICT INFORMATION:

  • The Household Income Form (HIF) can now be completed electronically. Regardless of income, every WCPS family needs to complete one form per household. Completing this form directly impacts the funding your school may receive. You can find the form here: /bit.ly/WCPSHIF

  • School Lunch Menu: December

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me via email - joey.norman@warren.kyschools.us. I tend to have a really quick turnaround on answering emails so do not hesitate to contact me.
