My name is Marie-Louise Mbanfu, and I am the Newcomers ESL teacher at Greenwood High School. I have a B.A in English, an M.A in Education, and an MA in Linguistics. I have a profound love for teaching, and I try to create a special connection with my students, to give them all the psychological and moral support that they need to be successful. My students come from varying socio-cultural and linguistic backgrounds, all with the common goal of learning English, and learning it quickly. I have 22 years of teaching experience, with 14 of those as an ESL teacher in the US. In my teaching journey, I have had the honor of teaching students in different social and cultural settings, as such understand the challenges and frustrations that come with acquiring a second language. Bearing this in mind, I strive to embrace each and every student with the kind of love and understanding that gives them the security, courage, and confidence needed to begin living and learning in a new culture and language. My students find a friend, a mom, and sister in me, and I always look forward to teaching and learning from them each and everyday. We will have a great year!
