Greenwood High School is a place where people offer strength and support to each other. It is a place that offers personal growth to everyone, it is simply a good place to learn, to work, and be. I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve as an Administrator at Greenwood High School. This will be my 7th year at GHS after previously serving the Sumner County School System in Tennessee for 34 years as a Classroom teacher, Coach, Assistant Principal, and Principal.
My career began at Portland Junior High School, teaching various classes of science, coaching football and basketball. After six years, I accepted a job at Portland High School teaching Advanced/Honors Biology. At PHS, I was involved with various athletic programs coaching boys and girls basketball, softball, baseball and golf. After leaving PHS, I returned to Portland Middle School to teach 8th grade Science and coach both the boys and girls basketball teams. It was at Portland Middle School when I was appointed as an Assistant Principal. I served in that position until I was named as the Principal of Millersville Elementary. After a short stint at Millersville, I was appointed as the Principal at J.W. Wiseman in Portland, Tennessee, where I served for 13 years. During that time, I was selected by the State of Tennessee to serve as a mentor for all new Administrators across the state. In 2014, I decided to retire from the Sumner County School System and accepted a job at Greenwood High School as the Student Services Coordinator. It is a job that I have enjoyed from the very first day.
At Greenwood High School, our goal is to serve a community that demands not only a good academic program for our students, but it is expected to be an attractive part of the community. My belief is whether ones' responsibility is administrating, supervising, teaching, preparing lunches, maintaining a building, or managing an office, there is always room for improvement and for new ways to do a good job even better.
We are proud of what we achieve at GHS in our classrooms, and on our playing fields, or on our stages, but our achievements are not due to complacency and satisfaction with the status quo. Our programs at Greenwood High School is what it is because we have a staff of dedicated, aspiring men and women that have a common goal--to do what is best for students.
This year, as in the past, we must concentrate on the processes that spur continuing advancement, evaluating what we have, determining what we can do to improve and identify what we need to make those improvements.
I am proud to be an Assistant Principal at GHS. I am thankful for this opportunity to serve the Greenwood community and the Warren County School District. Our belief and strength is to build strong and healthy relationships with our students and their families. Our focus has always been on student achievement and opportunities, student development, student character and producing solid citizenship within our school community.
