In this course we will read the traditional genres of literature—novels, short stories, poems, essays—as well as important documents from the cultural history of the United States and literary non-fiction. At the same time, we will study a variety of ways of writing and explore methods of argument and persuasion. The course aims to help you become a skilled reader and writer. You will have the opportunity to express yourself formally and informally. We will not, of course, neglect grammar study and vocabulary development. You will also have the opportunity for repeated practice in ACT content and skills in order to help prepare for the college entrance exam.
