"Children Don't Care What You Know Until They Know You Care"

I am married to Jerry Hicks.  We have 1 son, John Austin.  I Sharpen the Saw by spending lots of time at a baseball field watching John Austin.  I also enjoy scrapbooking, reading, traveling, and watching movies.

I am a graduate of Russell County High School in Russell Springs, KY.  I was raised in Jamestown, KY.  My parents still live there and we try to visit as much as possible.

My education includes:

BS from Western Ky University in Elementary Education 1-8

Masters from Western Ky University in Elementary Counseling

Rank 1 from Western Ky University in Elementary Counseling

I thoroughly love working in the Smith's Grove community at North Warren Elementary.  The students, parents, and staff at North Warren are the BEST!!

The counseling program is comprehensive and developmental in nature.  It is systematic, sequential, clearly defined, and accountable.  Proactive and preventive in focus, the school counseling program assists students in acquiring and using life skills through the development of academic, career, self-awareness, and interpersonal communication proficiency.

It is my mission to minimize the impact of, or to eliminate the impediments in students’ lives by addressing the whole person in order to maximize their potential achievement.

It is my job to help your child get the best possible education, which includes learning good social skills.  Good social skills may include learning how to get along with other children, making good decisions, controlling anger, accepting responsibility, and being aware of strengths and and weaknesses.

I also work to support students who are going through other difficult times that affect them while they are at school like family illness, death or divorce.  Our individual and small group counseling services have an educational base and a limited scope and duration.  Students may speak confidentially about feelings, ideas, and behaviors which are affecting their school experience.  These services may be provided individually for a short time and are sometimes offered through a small group format.  A child may self-refer, teachers may refer students and/or parents may call to refer a child.
