This year, we will be incorporating the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People based on the book, The Leader in Me, by Dr. Stephen R. Covey. Our entire staff at Natcher Elementary will be focusing on this school-wide initiative. Through the implementation of this program, we will be teaching each student how to become a leader in school, at home, and in the community.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Students (taken from p.21-22 in the above pictured book):
Habit 1: Be Proactive
Being proactive means being responsible and taking responsibility for my actions.
Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind
When I begin with the end in mind, I plan ahead and set goals.
Habit 3: Put first things first
When I put first things first, I spend my time on things that need to be completed first, then I do the things that I want to do next.
Habit 4: Think win-win
I think about what others need and want, and I help out when conflicts arise.
Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood
I listen to other people's feelings and ideas. I try to see things from their viewpoint.
Habit 6: Synergize
I value other people's strengths and I learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different from me.
Habit 7: Sharpen the saw
I take care of myself, I enjoy my family and friends and I learn in lots of different places.
