Story of photo:
In the Himalayan hill station of Dharamshala, India, spirituality is a prominent feature of daily life. This is due to the Tsuglagkhang Complex and Dalai Lama Temple being nestled in the forest just outside of the city. They house the Dalai Lama himself along with thousands of monks and other pilgrims who travel to meet His Holiness while he is in exile from Tibet due to oppression by the Communist Party of China. Many Buddhist monks and Hindu sadhus can be found in the streets, often praying or traveling to the Tsuglagkhang Complex as well as other temples and giant prayer wheels that dot Dharamshala. These sadhus and monks dedicate their life to religion and spiritual pursuits, giving up all possessions to pray and become one with God. Pictured is a sadhu on a narrow mountainside backroad that leads to the entrance of the Tsuglagkhang Complex. Draped over his shoulder is a rug to lay out for prayer as well as sleep, and in his hand is a small metal bucket to collect alms.
