Kindergarten Readiness

Early Entrance to Kindergarten (Students turning 5 between Aug. 2 - Nov. 1)

Children must be at least 5 years old by AUGUST 1 in order to be age eligible to enroll in Kindergarten.

If your child will not be age eligible by August 1, our district offers an "Early Entrance to Kindergarten" option. Students must turn 5 on or before November 1st in order to apply for Early Entrance to Kindergarten.

To be recommended for early entrance to kindergarten, children will need to demonstrate above-average performance and development in academic skills as well as approaches to learning, health and physical well-being, language and communication development, social and emotional development, and cognitive and general knowledge. The standards for early admittance are very high to ensure that students are not frustrated by their advanced grade placement. There will be no consideration, including an appeals process, for children with birthdates beyond November 1 (turning 5 by November 1 of the school year).

Applications for Early Entrance to Kindergarten will open the first Monday in March and will end on the first Monday of May. Students that apply will be screened by May 30th. Each child will only be screened one time and there will not be an opportunity for rescreening.

Intervention: Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

Warren County Schools is diligent in reaching every learner. Each school provides researched based Core Instruction both academically and behaviorally. Our schools have systems and supports in place to identify and address students' academic and behavioral needs effectively. Child Study Teams use data from our Universal Screener and classroom assessments to develop and implement evidence-based interventions. These teams meet regularly throughout the school year to monitor student progress.

Parents will be notified if their child is identified as needing targeted intervention. Each school will provide progress updates throughout the year. If parents have questions about their child's intervention plan, they should contact their school.
