Will 6th grade students be more isolated in a building with 7th and 8th grade students?
While each school will have autonomy in school configuration to best meet the needs of their students, each school is committed to giving this great consideration as part of the transition process. The most successful middle schools do limit the opportunities for interactions between 6th graders and the other students throughout the school day. Again, ensuring the social and emotional safety of students is dependent upon the school climate created by the administrative and teacher leadership within the building.
