We are five days away from spring break. After spring break, we will only have three weeks until the Kentucky State Assessment (KSA). It is hard to believe that we are just two months away from summer break. We are committed to ensuring that your child(ren) will continue receiving high-quality instruction through the remainder of the school year. We also want them to have fun while they learn. There are many events planned over the next two months for our students to enjoy. Please see below for details.
I want to continue highlighting the amazing growth of our students since the beginning of the year (measured using the HMH Growth Measure assessments). Students in Kindergarten through 6th grade took the HMH Math Growth Measure Assessment, while students in grades two through sixth took the HMH Reading Growth Measure Assessment. The HMH Growth Measure assessments place students in proficiency levels: Far Below Level (2-grade levels or more behind), Below Level (one grade level behind), Approaching (less than one-grade level behind), On Level, and Above Level. See below for data that highlights the amazing growth that our students and teachers have accomplished since the beginning of the year:
HMH Reading Growth Measure Assessment Growth (2nd-6th grades only) since the beginning of the year:
- Beginning of the year: 260 students Far Below or Below Grade Level
- End of the year: 165 students Far Below or Below Grade Level
- Beginning of the year: 68 students On or Above Grade Level
- End of the year: 177 students On or Above Grade Level
- 53% of students showed End-of-Year Growth
- 29% of students grew out of Below Level
- 52% of students grew out of Far Below Level
HMH Math Growth Measure Assessment Growth (Kindergarten-6th grades) since the beginning of the year:
- Beginning of the year: 367 students Far Below or Below Grade Level
- End of the year: 182 students Far Below or Below Grade Level
- Beginning of the year: 67 students On or Above Grade Level
- End of the year: 333 students On or Above Grade Level
- 65% of students showed End-of-Year Growth
- 47% of students grew out of Below Level
- 69% of students grew out of Far Below Level
This amazing growth is a testament to how hard our students and teachers have worked this school year.
This week, Mr. Griggs and Ms. Essig will host our second book fair in the Jennings Creek Library. Family night is Tuesday, March 28, from 4 PM - 6 PM. To celebrate reading across the school and book fair week, the following things are planned throughout the week:
- Monday, March 27 - Score with Reading! Dress in sports-related clothing.
- Tuesday, March 28 - Cuddle up with a Good Book! Dress in your favorite pajamas.
- Wednesday, March 29 - Books are Super! Dress like your favorite superhero!
- Thursday, March 30 - Get tied up in a Good Book! Wear bowties, neckties, ribbons, or hairbows.
- Friday, March 31 - Read to Succeed! Wear a Warren Central or University Shirt.
In addition to the book fair, this week is jam-packed with events for our students. On Tuesday, March 28, our Family Resource Center is hosting Career Day for our 5th and 6th-grade students. It is never too early for our students to begin exploring their career interests. On Friday, March 31, we will have our normal Celebrate Leaders Assembly at the end of the day. This will be followed by "My Special Person School Dance" that evening. A special thanks goes out to our PTO for organizing this event for our students and their families.
I also want to inform you of a great program we have coming to Jennings Creek to speak with our 5th and 6th-grade students. On April 12, we are hosting "Tough Talks Drug Awareness - Raising Awareness. Saving Lives." This program is facilitated by local first responders and educators to bring awareness to students, parents, teachers, and administrators in hopes that students will make better decisions when faced with tough choices. If you have any questions about this presentation, please feel free to email me.
