October 21st through 25th

Topic: Performance Arts and Storytelling

Stories: Kamishibai Man

Genres: Realistic Fiction

Target Skills: Cause and Effect; Analyzing Illustrations

Essential Questions: How do traditions play an important role in our culture? What makes folktales unique from other forms of storytelling? How can folktales provide us with more information about a culture? What makes Mexican culture unique and interesting? What conclusions are you able to draw about the characters while reading this week's story?

Each week, students rotate through Daily-5-inspired centers to strengthen their individual skills with overall literacy, independent reading, oral reading, fluency, phonics, spelling, writing, technology, and discussion. Students also complete story checkpoints regularly to gauge their progress with weekly vocabulary words and skills alongside comprehension of the selected genre and story. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you!

Love and blessings, Mrs. Johni Lecoffre
