Hello! My name is Casey Bates, I teach Art at the spectacular South Warren High School! I've taught Art for 14 years and am in my 11th year at SWHS. I am proud to be one of the "Original 800" Spartans and have been here since day one :) I love SWHS!!
This year I am teaching:
1. VISUAL ART I (entry level Visual Arts, interest and work ethic in the arts STRONGLY advised), Click HERE for a quick welcome video for VA1!
2. VISUAL ART II (those who took VAI, succeeded, LOVED it, and are ready for a challenge), Click HERE for a quick welcome video for upper level courses!
3. INDEPENDENT STUDIO (prereq: VAI & VAII, independently motivated with a continuing passion and work ethic in the arts), Click HERE for a quick welcome video for upper level courses!
4. SWORD - Arts & Humanities (4.5 week course that helps fulfill A&H requirement for graduation) (SWORD has been temporarily postponed.)
I love being involved in school activities, I attend various athletic events, serve on the PBIS committee, Leadership committee, and also supervise the Art Club and National Art Honor Society.
I graduated in the top of my class from WKU in 2005 with my Bachelors Degree in Art Education and a minor in Psychology. I completed my Masters Degree in School Counseling in 2009 (with a 4.0 Hooray!). I also finished my Rank I in School Counseling just a few years ago. I enjoy learning so I will likely continue down a path to further educate myself!
Hobbies I enjoy include the obvious: Art, Crafts, Do-It-Yourself stuff, a healthy Pinterest addiction :) , etc.
And the not-so-obvious: Shooting zombies in "Left 4 Dead" on Xbox, basketball/sports, movies, travel, plants, etc.
I have two Yorkies: Cruiser and Harley. They make up my little family, and if you come to my classroom you'll see tons of pictures and I'll tell you lots of stories about them :)
I have a sincere passion for teaching, and I also often instruct community-based courses that are open to the public. My artists and I work in collaboration with the Empty Bowls Project (www.emptybowlsbg.com) every year to help feed the hungry here locally in Bowling Green. If you are interested in helping out with the Empty Bowls Project shoot me an email :)
