Welcome! This is my sixth year of teaching and I love what I do! My kindergarten friends are so loving and their smiles brighten my day! I do not consider my profession a "job" but more as a "hobby." I enjoy teaching my students not only academic skills but leadership skills and life-long lessons as well. While incorporating the 7 Habits from the Leader in Me program, my hope is that each student sees themself as a true leader with their own goals and desires. Everyday, I laugh with my students and give them the love that they each deserve!
I was born and raised in Madisonville, Kentucky. Madisonville is a small town northwest of Bowling Green. Upon deciding where I would attend college, Western Kentucky was my first and only choice! One of my fondest memories will forever be the choice I made to travel abroad to complete my student teaching in the spring of 2012. Along with 26 other classmates I travled across the world to Barcelona, Spain where I spent four and a half weeks. Quickly, I became the "student" as they were teaching me Spanish traditions and ways of their culture. It was then that I understood what it must feel like to be an ESL student. With Natcher having such a diverse population of students, I now believe that I can relate to their struggles when it comes to speaking and understanding a second language.
I proudly graduated from WKU in May of 2012 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and have since earned my Master's degree in literacy. During my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and traveling. During the summer of 2014 I became Mrs. Swanson when I married my husband, Andrew! We have one baby girl who was born this summer and a labradoodle named Calvin.
With the help of an amazing Natcher family, I hope to continue to grow as a leader and will strive to make an impact in every child's life.
