Welcome! I am the Moderate and Severe Disabilities (MSD, formerly known as "FMD") teacher Bristow Elementary School. I have been at Bristow since 2011, and love our Bristow family.
I graduated from Vanderbilt University in December 2010 with my Master's Degree in Special Education, emphasis on students with moderate to severe disabilities. During my time at Vanderbilt, I worked as a research assistant on Project SUPPORT and INCLUDE (PSI) and Project WRITE, and gained experience as a data analysist as well as in managing and shaping student behavior.
During my time in Nashville, I had the unique opportunity to work with elementary-aged students at a special education school. This school is a public school with students from ages 3-21 who have profound cognitive and physical disabilities, as well as severe medical needs. I learned many strategies for meeting the needs of these students, including ways to balance and combine physical care with academic components. This was one of the most pivotal experiences during my education, as I learned the most about what my job as a special education teacher will look like.
I have greatly enjoyed my years so far at Bristow and look forward to continuing to meet the unique needs of students during this school year. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions!
