With the present state of the economy, I know that many folks in our area and across the country are struggling with finances right now. I want to take this opportunity to make you aware of some of the services that are offered in our area should your family be one of those affected by the economy.
One of the easiest ways to locate assistance in our area is found on the web at assistance.ky.gov. This easy to navigate website features links to nearly every agency that offers support in the state of Kentucky. I would encourage everyone to check this site out if you have any assistance needs.
The Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance program (KCHIP) provides free or low cost health insurance for children to qualifying families. Recently, the KCHIP guidelines and procedures have been changed for easier accessibility. Previously, a face-to-face interview was required to determine eligibility. However, the new guidelines allow for an application to simply be mailed or faxed in. If you have interest in this program, I have brochures, as well as applications located in the Family Resource Center at school.
I also want to remind you about the school free and reduced lunch program. Although applications are taken during the first month of the school year, any change in family or financial status (job loss, pay cut, new family members in the household) allows you to re-apply for free or reduced lunch. Please note that this does not excuse any previous charges that are on your child’s account. If you would like an application, please contact our school cafeteria (563-4013) or the Family Resource Center, and we will send an application home with your child.
Finally, I want to make myself available to you if you need any help in locating brochures, forms, or services. You can reach me by phone at 563-9857, by e-mail (email@example.com), or by stopping by the school. Any questions or assistance referrals are kept confidential.
