Family Resource Components

 Basic Needs

Although the basic needs component is optional, it is often identified as the greatest barrier in education. The FRC keeps and food pantry and clothing closet to meet the emergency needs of our families. Holiday assistance is also coordinated through the center. A list of available community resources is kept updated in the center for referrals.

Educational Support

Supplies are made available to both the student and teacher in the Center. In addition to material support, the FRC offers training to parents and community members who wish to volunteer their time at the school. Other educational activities provided throughout the school year include: Dollars and Sense Fair, Space Camp (Need-based scholarships available), and Community speakers.

Family Literacy (Parent and Child Education)

Family literacy is addressed through at least one family night activity. Other activities conducted throughout the year that have a general focus on families include: Dessert with Dad, Mommy and Me Tea, Grandparents Day, Homework Club, Milk and Cookies with Santa, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and additional family nights addressing technology, study skills, and school environment.

Families in Training

The Center provides expectant or new parents a gift bag containing items and information useful to new parents. The FRC also keeps an updated library with information in early childhood intervention and education. The Center offers support and services in partnership with the Alvaton Pre-school program.

Health

The FRC contains many referrals to community agencies for free and reduced health services. Also offered are Health and Safety fairs, Fitness Days, Mobile Health Units, hygiene information and supplies, and the County-wide Back to School Bash that provides free immunizations and physicals to students in the Warren County schools.

Safe Schools

A safe and welcoming environment is important to all of our students. The FRC encourages this by sponsoring Pride Pals, a group of intermediate students dedicated to drug abuse prevention and a violence free lifestyle for our school and community. The group sponsors Red Ribbon Week each October.

Preschool Childcare, After-school Childcare, and Childcare Provider Support

The FRC keeps an updated list of local, certified childcare providers for referrals. The Center provides support to the referrals to the before and after-school childcare programs partnering with the PTO and Community Action. Camp Alvaton is also offered two weeks during the summer break.
