The 2024 General Assembly is currently meeting in Frankfort and this year’s budget session will conclude no later than April 15. With more than a decade of inadequate education funding, we are requesting that our legislature provide the funding to put us back to 2008 “buying power”. Restoring K-12 funding to the equivalency level of 2008 would provide WCPS with an additional $29,000,000 for the 23-24 school year. The 15-year trend of underfunding our public schools has led to the remarkable wage gap our employees are experiencing when compared to other professions requiring similar credentials. Perhaps more troubling is our district's lack of applicants for numerous job opportunities. You can trust us to continue educating our legislators about the current situation and the need for immediate and dramatic intervention.

In an effort to inform our community, we have released a video series discussing the critical need for the legislature to increase funding to help address the underfunding of public schools, our critical workforce shortage and to retain the excellent employees we have on staff currently. In these videos, you’ll hear from current WCPS employees on the challenges they face as they struggle to make ends meet and our call for the General Assembly to adequately fund public education in the Commonwealth. You may watch Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

Early education will always be a top educational priority in WCPS as we know if students have a strong foundation in the beginning, they will be better prepared to learn the content and find success in our schools. In Warren County, we are extremely proud to share how we have prioritized early education with a variety of initiatives.

  • Four days per week preschool for almost 800 students

  • KinderReady Summer Academy

  • Kindergarten Readiness Parent Seminars

  • 42 Preschool Teachers

  • Assistant Preschool Director

  • Future Preschool Academy at Warren Elementary

Recently, our preschool students scored well above the state average on the Brigance assessment when they entered kindergarten and this is directly attributable to our talented and dedicated preschool team for having high expectations for all of our students!

We are thankful for every one of our families for allowing us to educate and care for your child(ren) while prioritizing their safety, achievement and opportunities! If you or your child ever needs assistance, please do not hesitate to call on us!

Respectfully,

Rob Clayton

Superintendent
