Tardy to School

FROM THE GREENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK

POLICY FOR UNEXCUSED ABSENCES/TARDIES TO SCHOOL (7:30 a.m.) PER SEMESTER

Please note that school attendance policy and school administered consequences for excessive unexcused absences/tardies in no way substitutes for state statute that defines truancy, nor does it preclude potential court administered consequences that may be applied relative to truancy issues. Students who are tardy to 1st block/period must sign in at the Attendance Desk and present a “tardy” slip to their 1st block/period teacher upon entering the classroom.

 

Parent Notification

  • Once a student has accumulated three (3) unexcused absences and/or three (3) unexcused tardies, a letter will be mailed to the parent/guardian.

 

Maximum number of unexcused absences/tardies per semester prior to receiving school administered disciplinary action

  • Students will be assigned consequences beyond three (3) unexcused absences per semester.
  • Students will be assigned consequences beyond three (3) unexcused tardies per semester.

 

School administered disciplinary measures for excessive unexcused absences/tardies

  • 4th tardy to school or unexcused absence:  3 day lunch detention
  • 5th tardy to school or unexcused absence:  5 days lunch detention
  • 6th tardy to school or unexcused absence:  after school detention
  • Each tardy to school or unexcused absence after the 6th will result in 1 day ALC
  • 7th tardy to school or unexcused absence:  parent conference (in addition to ALC)
  • 10th tardy to school or unexcused absence:  student forfeits prom and class reward activities (in addition to ALC).
