Two Warren County Public Schools teachers were honored May 21 during Warren County Board of Education recognition ceremonies for receiving Young Educator Awards.
Aaron Richmond (left), Special Education teacher at Warren East High School, and Ashley Buchanon, sixth grade teacher at Rockfield Elementary, are the first recipients of the Virginia Mutchler Young Woman Educator Award given at the Delta Kappa Gamma tea on Saturday, April 27. Both teachers received a $500 scholarship to be applied towards either National Board certification or a post-graduate degree of their choice, and membership in the Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International.
Delta Kappa Gamma International is an organization for professional women educators. Its mission is to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
This award was established in memory of Mrs. Virgnina Mutchler, a member of the Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a retired elementary school teacher, administrator, and professor at Western Kentucky University who was actively involved at the local, state, national and international levels of the organization. Mrs. Mutchler was inducted into the inaugural class of the first Delta Kappa Gamma International Hall of Fame in 2011.
