Thanks to the students' desire to give to those less fortunate, a fourth-grade class at Plano Elementary School is receiving WBKO Television's Hometown Hero Award. Tara Tinsley's class at Plano was selected for the award after the students elected to forego their own reward to help children at the Family Enrichment Center in Bowling Green.
The students won the school-wide "Buckets of Hope" campaign, collecting the most cleaning supplies, diapers and other items to be donated to the Wee Care nursery at the Family Enrichment Center. Their reward was coupons for free meals at Wendy's, but the students decided on their own to donate those coupons back to the children at Wee Care. They visited Wee Care on March 26, delivering the coupons in person.
For their act of philanthropy, the students were selected for the Hometown Hero Award and will be featured on WBKO Friday, April 4.
