English Learner Programs
Welcome to the Warren County Schools English Learner (EL) Programs site. Our district provides instruction and support to students who are not yet proficient in English or English Learners (ELs). EL students in Warren County Schools (WCS) come from more than 35 countries and speak more than 50 languages and dialects.
The challenges for EL students are many. Primarily, they are learning academic content in a language that is not their own. The goals of WCS EL Programs include teaching English, supporting and encouraging students' native language proficiency to the maximium extent possible and providing rigorous content instruction and support. Academic expectations are held high for all ELs. At the same time, support in all school environments is also provided.
In WCS, all cultures and languages are welcomed and valued. WCS administrators, teachers and staff understand that EL students bring important assets into the learning environment. The specific goals of the ESL program are 1) to provide EL students with equal opportunity and access to services so they may become fully proficient in English and meet content standards 2) to enable EL students to become Career and College Ready.
