The teaching staff at each of our fourteen elementary schools provide direct instruction to students identified for Primary Talent Pool (PTP) services. PTP includes grades Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade. Each school's Elementary Curriculum Coordinator, (ECC), is Kentucky certified in Gifted and Talented education and they work extremely hard to ensure developmentally appropriate instruction is designed to meet the needs of any identified PTP student. Lessons are aligned to the National Association of Gifted Children's standards and are designed to develop creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking strategies.
At any time during the school year, assessment results and teacher recommendations are examined by the school's gifted committee (School S.U.M.M.I.T. Committee) to identify all student names submitted in order to generate each primary (K-3) grade level's list of PTP students. For more information regarding those areas or for any questions about the Primary Talent Pool, please contact either your school's ECC or Lorie Richey, Elementary Supervisor of Instruction and Gifted and Talented Director, at Central Office at 270-781-5150. Feel free to reference the Primary Talent Pool section in our district's Gifted and Talented Handbook by clicking here.
Regardless of whether or not a student was identified for a school's PTP in no way indicates whether he/she will be identified for gifted and talented services beginning in the fourth grade. The goal of the PTP is to identify, monitor and nurture those gifted traits that are seen very early in a child's educational journey in order for formal identification to POTENTIALLY take place once a student enters 4th grade. A student may then be identified for gifted and talented services at any time from 4th - 12th grades and in any area.
