Veterans Day Program at DCMS

The 2018 Veterans Day Program at Drakes Creek was held on November 12, 2018.  There were several Veterans present representing different branches of service and eras, including the guest speaker, Retired Col. Gary Travis.  The Greenwood Jr. ROTC Honor Guard presented the colors and Mrs. Fields choirs performed patriotic songs.  Thank you, Veterans, for your service and your sacrifice.

LEGO Robotics competition scheduled for Feb. 23
Western Kentucky University Engineering faculty and  staff, with support from the Tau Beta Pi student Engineering Honors Society,  will conduct the 13th annual Kentucky Bluegrass LEGO Robotics Competition on  February 23 at Drakes Creek Middle School.

For the 2013 competition, elementary and middle school teams must build  autonomous robots from LEGO Mindstorm kits to navigate a curving track and a straight track as quickly  and accurately as possible.

Teams will compete in either the “Engineer-in-Training” division for  Elementary School teams, or the “Professional Engineers” division for Middle  School and more experienced teams.

Welcome to our new Principal, Mr. Daryl Woods.  Mr. Woods is not new to DCMS.  Years ago he taught math at Drakes Creek M.S.  Since then he has been principal at Franklin-Simpson Middle School.  We are excited to have Mr. Woods as our principal.
Nominations being accepted for Hall of Distinguished Alumni
Nominations are now being accepted for the inaugural class of the Warren County Public Schools Hall of Distinguished Alumni.
We are excited to begin a new year at Drakes Creek Middle School on August 9.  Students can learn about their team and the building during our Back to School Bash on August 6 from 5-7 PM. School starts each day at 7:25 a.m. and ends at 2:20 p.m.  The building will open for students at 7 a.m. and car riders must be picked up by 3:00 p.m.  Buses will leave the building as soon as we can load; this is usually around 2:35-2:40 on the first few days and 2:30 as students learn the routine.  After leaving DCMS, buses move to Greenwood to load high school students.  Car riders will begin loading when buses are clear of the parking lot.  There will be an open house scheduled for a date after school has started.  We look forward to a great year.

KYA - Ky. Youth Assembly
The KYA class is preparing very hard writing bills, ideas for new laws, for the Kentucky Youth Assembly.  We will be traveling to Louisville November 17-19th.  We are also sponsoring a spaghetti dinner at the family fun night.  A spaghetti dinner served with salad and homemade bread and a cookie will be served.  This fund raiser will help with the costs of our trip.

Band & Choir Earn Distinguished Ratings at Concert Festival
  The 8th grade band performed in the KMEA Concert Band Festival assessment event at WKU where they earned distinguished ratings from all judges in both stage performance and in sight reading.  Congratulations!

The choir performed in the festival in April as well and earned distinguished ratings for their performances.  Way to go choir!
