Students participate in many different forms of formal and informal assessment. Classroom teachers consistently assess students in all content areas using both formative and summative assessments. Students are also periodically given STAR Reading and Math assessments to assess their strengths and weaknesses in reading and math. Students in grades 3-6 participate in Discovery Education assessments three times each school year. These assessments are computer-based and measure a student's mastery of state assessed skills at each grade level. In the spring of each year, students in grades 3-6 participate in KPREP testing. Scores on those tests are reported annually to the public. To the side you will find important documents related to Plano Elementary and the state's accountability system. The Kentucky Department of Education's Open House site also includes lots of reports related assessment and accountability.
The teachers at Plano Elementary use The Common Core Standards as their curriculum framework for reading and math instruction. Teachers use the Kentucky Program of Studies as their curriculum framework for all other subject areas. Below you will find a table that includes the textbook series that teachers use as a resource and guide when planning units and lessons. Teachers also use many other resources in addition to the textbook series.
