Lost River Students Attend a School Day Performance of Sleeping Beauty at SKyPAC


On March 31st, the entire school was bused to SKyPAC to watch the performance of Sleeping Beauty by the Lost River Elementary Performing Arts students.  Great job Lions!

Lost River Elementary Makes the Midday News on WBKO

Mrs. Thibodeau and students from Lost River Elementary are interviewed by WBKO about the upcoming performance of Sleeping Beauty at SKyPAC on March 31st at 6:30.  Our own Aa'Lycia Bowman sings a song from the play during the Midday segment.  The performance is free and doors will open at 6:00.  Please come join us.  Watch the interview from Monday, March 28th WBKO Midday at the link below.  


Lost River Elementary Welcomes Browning Fire Department

Lost River Elementary 2nd graders are reading about Firefighters this week.  Thanks to Browning Fire Department their story came to life on Wednesday, March 23.  Students were able to see real firefighters, their truck, and their equipment.  They were also able to ask questions and make connections in real life to their story in their reading book.  A BIG Thank You to the Browning Fire Department for making this happen.

Lost River Leadership Day--March 10, 2016


Lost River Elementary Staff and Students welcome visitors to Leadership Day.  Students made presentations and provided information to schools about the "Leader in Me" program at Lost River Elementary.  Visitors from Foster Heights Elementary in Bardstown and from Richardsville Elementary in Warren County learned about student scoreboards, data notebooks, Leaders of the Month, Leadership Luncheons, the Watch D.O.G.S. program for Dads, and many other "Leader in Me" initiatives.  They were also able to talk with students and visit their displays to learn about different groups within the school.  Those groups were BETA Club, Performing Arts, Strings, Band, STLP, Student Leadershp Team, Student Lighthouse Team, Academic Team, News Team, and ESL (English Second Language).  We are so proud of our Lost River Lions.  Great Job!

Doughnuts with Dad a Huge Success

Lost River Elementary participated in the "Dad Take Your Child to School Day" as part of the Million Father March.  Dads and their children were  greeted in the Library with doughnuts, juice, and milk.  After visiting with their children, the dads participated in a parade through the school where students lined the halls to cheer them on for participating in this event.  The school had 307 dads show up for the event.  This was also the kick off for their Watch D.O.G.S. program that encourages dads to volunteer in school.  Staff and students were excited about the turnout and praised dads for their presence in the school.

September Leaders of the Month

Students that demonstrated Habit #1 "Be Proactive" were selected from each class as the September Leaders of the Month.  These students participated in the Leadership Luncheon on September 2, 2015.  Mr. Joe Hood spoke to the group on times in his life that he had been proactive and the postitive effect it had in his life and career.  Mr. Hood is the Warren Central High School Girl's Basketball Coach, the Warren Central High School Golf Coach, and a former Lost River Elementary student.

Lost River Teachers and Adminstrators took a bus trip to students' homes to welcome them to a new school year on Monday, August 10.  They shared a smile and a popcicle with students to show them how important they are to their Lost River family.

ESL Teachers Attend Workshop in Louisville

Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. Martin attended a workshop in Louisville on July 23, 2015.  The workshop was titled "Teaching Academic Content and Literacy to English Learner Students."  Dr. Proctor from Boston College and Dr. Kieffer from New York University conducted the workshop based on their new practice guide that was recently published by the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences.  Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. Martin will be sharing the four recommendations from the practice guide with teachers to enhance teaching and learning for English Language Learners.

Back to School Dates

The Warren County Family Resource and Youth Service Centers will host the annual Back-to-School Bash at Warren Central High School on July 30 from 3:00-5:00.  Each student will receive a T-shirt.  There will be school and community infomation and lots of free stuff. 

Lost River will host an Open House on August 9 at 2:00.  This is a great opportunity for you to meet your teachers for the upcoming school year.

The first day of school for students is August 11.  Our start and end time did not change.  We still start at 7:20 and end at 2:20.

Charles Lewis, a courier and custodian for Warren County Public Schools (WCPS), received a “Trailblazer Award” for his community-service activities at a ceremony held February 24 at Seventh Street Missionary Baptist Church.
